for young people

In light of growing historical oblivion, rising anti-Semitism and social division, remembrance is more important than ever. ‘Echoes in Ink – Art of Remembrance’ invites young people to actively and creatively engage with Dresden’s Jewish history and the question of what remembrance can look like today – personally, politically and artistically.

We are looking for committed, curious young people between the ages of 15 and 25 – whether from Jewish communities, schools, youth groups, doing a social year or studying – who are interested in retelling history through art. You don’t have to be a professional: interest and openness are all you need!

MEMORIAL TOURS

Learn the history of your city from a new perspective

Five themed memorial tours through Dresden immerse you in the diverse Jewish history of the city – from the early community to today’s culture of remembrance. Through interactive methods, reflection and creative inspiration, we work together to develop personal connections to historical sites and their significance today.

CREATIVE-WORKSHOPS

Process your impressions artistically

In a series of creative workshops, you will learn how to tell stories using images and text – from panel layout to character design. You will develop your first scenes and image ideas, find your style and work on your own narrative about memory, persecution, Jewish life or questions about the future.

GRAPHIC NOVELS

Tell your story – visually, personally, powerfully

In several sessions, you will work on your graphic novel (alone or in a team). You will receive support from artists, historians and educators. At the end, you will have your finished story – and the opportunity to showcase it in an exhibition, a public presentation and a printed publication.
